QUEENSTOWN COLLECTIVE (FEAT. PLUMM) CITY LIGHTS
Queenstown Collective return with their third release of 2025, and with it they cement their place at the forefront of the UK’s new wave of jazz innovators. Fresh from a string of sold-out summer shows, the London-based ensemble unveil 'City Lights', a track that feels as expansive as its title suggests. Where their previous singles showcased their dexterity and groove-led foundations, 'City Lights' pushes deeper into atmosphere and emotion. The track unfolds like a nocturnal journey through a neon-drenched cityscape- bass and drums locking into a hypnotic pulse, while shimmering keys and guitar carve out spacious textures. Over this tapestry, Plumm’s celestial vocal takes centre stage, raw yet ethereal, pulling the listener into a space that feels both intimate and cinematic. There’s an immediacy in the live energy, recorded in a single take at Press Play Studios, but also a sense of craft, with the band bending contemporary jazz into new shapes. Echoes of spiritual jazz meet groove-driven innovation, a blend that fans of Yussef Dayes, Ezra Collective, or Alfa Mist will instantly recognise, but with Queenstown Collective’s own cosmic signature stamped across it. Born out of a Brixton jam session, the group has quickly evolved into a collective of some of the UK scene’s most in-demand players, whose credits span Joe Armon-Jones, Theon Cross, and Nubiyan Twist. Together, they channel that wealth of experience into music that feels both rooted in tradition and unafraid of the unknown. -Rachel Fryer
